What I Wore: Christmas Edition

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas!! I had a lovely holiday spent surrounded by family, friends, and great food. I also loved the outfit I wore! So, here's What I Wore: Christmas Edition! I've been lusting after a faux fur vest all season now, but I just hadn't come across the perfect one yet (see previous post: Monday Must-Haves Link-Up). Lucky for me, my sister got me one for Christmas! I absolutely love it because it's different than what I've been seeing in other stores and it's so soft and warm. It's even reversible! Of course, I couldn't resist wearing it on Christmas Day.

I paired my new faux fur vest with olive Simply Vera Wang jeggings. They are so unbelievably comfortable; it's like wearing pajamas! After seeing them many times in Kohl's, I decided to take a chance and buy them because my sister had a pair and I really liked them. I had been hesitant in the past because I was concerned they would be unflattering, but they're actually not at all. For an extra dose of glam, I decided to add a gold glitter belt over the vest.

Love my look? You can get it, too!

Monday Must-Haves: New Years Eve Edition

Monday Must-Haves: New Years Eve Edition

It's almost New Years Eve! Are you putting the final touches on your look? For today's Monday Must-Haves Link-Up with The Style Record, I'm filling you in on all of my recent favorite glam-worthy accessories! I'm telling you, you've got to have at least one of these fabulous items if you want to ring in the new year with style.

1- Jeweled Necklaces: A lot of women like dainty necklaces, but no- not me! I love big, fabulous statement necklaces. It just makes me feel more glamorous! And it truly adds so much to an outfit. The perfect holiday for this style is none other than New Years Eve! It's all about dazzling elegance and jeweled statement necklaces compliment that perfectly.

Here's a few lovely affordable jeweled necklaces-

2- Glitter Clutches: The truth is, I love glitter anything! Sparkles and sequins add instant femininity to any look. A glitter clutch is the perfect accent to compliment an evening look or glam-up a casual day look. What better accessory to celebrate the new year with!

Here's a few stunning, elegant glitter clutches-

3- a Faux Fur Coat: Fur is fabulous! Well, faux fur that is. That's right; I'm all about animal rights. If we can enjoy fabulous fur that's faux, why harm animals for it? Regardless, this season fur coats and vests are everywhere. I just love the elegance and glamour it adds to a look.

Here's a few of my favorite affordable faux fur coats-

4- Glitter Flats: I bought a pair of trendy black glitter pointed-toe flats from Old Navy a few years ago. The best thing about this is that the shoe is still in style and they're in good condition! I expected it to be a one season trend, so I didn't invest much in them. But they've survived the test of time!

Here's a few dazzling glitter flats at all price points-

5- Burgundy Lipstick: I'm a huge fan of lipstick! Ever since I was a flapper for Halloween three years ago, I've been hooked on bright, fun lips. This season, it's all about dark, burgundy lips. It's sure to make any look more glamorous!

Here's a few burgundy lipsticks to try out-

6- Glitter Eye Liner: I'm a long-time lover of glitter eye liner! Every time I wear it, I get a ton of compliments. It just adds an extra bit of dazzle to my make-up! My favorite brand to use is Urban Decay. It's a little bit more expensive than other brands, but it lasts a long time so it's worth the investment.

Here's my favorite glitter eye liner, Urban Decay Heavy Metal-

Blogger Secret Santa

Over this holiday season, I participated in a Blogger Secret Santa hosted by Alexandra of Glory Boon. It was such a fun idea, so of course I said YES! It's so cool that everything can be done virtually these days. We used a virtual hat to give us our assignments so it was a real secret. We had a limit of $15, so it was really tough.

My gift was from Sara of Sincerely Sara. She got me a beautiful graphic scarf and a fancy amethyst soap, which happens to be my birthstone. Thanks, Sara!

Check out all of my fabulous blogger friends that participated:

For all of the procrastinators out there- here's my Last Minute Stocking Stuffer Gift Guide

It has glitter in the nail polish! Essie Encrusted Treasures Collection

3- Topshop snood: If you grew up in the 90's like me, you might remember a computer game called Snood. Well, that's not the subject here but I just had to give you a little dose of nostalgia! 5- Victoria's Secret volumizing shampoo: Want supermodel hair? This is the stuff! I lived on this shampoo years ago and then switched over to another brand. Office Holiday Party: Look Two

Last week, I posted my Office Holiday Party look and style guide (see previous post: Office Holiday Party: Look One). I chose a neutral black and white color palette with burgundy accents. I loved it because it was such an understated holiday look; chic and professional with a touch of classic Christmas cheer. I'm sure many of you are going to several holiday parties this year, so I decided to style another look. This one's quite different!

For this office holiday party look, I decided to go with a more obvious color palette. I chose classic red and green along with neutral black and beige. This look truly embraces the Christmas holiday by the color palette, but the style is still very classy and professional. I love the classic argyle print cardigan! I added the long gold rose pendant necklace and black bow loafers for a nice, feminine touch.

Love my look? You can get it, too!

1- Argyle Cardigan: Croft & Barrow by Kohl's, $12.99
2- Sleeveless Ribbed Turtleneck: 212 Collection by Kohl's, $17.99
3- Mixed Media Pencil Skirt: Simply Vera Wang by Kohl's, $28.80
4- Pine Green Sweater Tights: Apt. 9 by Kohl's, $6.99

Holiday Gift Wrapping Tutorial [video]

When we move into a new holiday season, I always look forward to gifting. There's just something about choosing just the right gift for your loved one and anticipating their reaction that makes it all worth it! I believe the most important aspect of gifting is the presentation, better known as the wrapping. You may have picked out the most amazing sweater for your mother, but the present is only half the fun. When your loved one can see that you took the time to wrap it, your gift will become more meaningful.

A beautifully wrapped present demonstrates that you put a lot of thought, time, and love into the gift. When the wrapping is perfect and the present is adored, I consider it a success!

So, wrapping may not be your forte. But trust me, the effort to wrap will go a long way! I encourage you to give it a try this year. It's not as hard as it looks!

Check out my special Holiday Gift Wrapping Tutorial video above for a complete step-by-step guide on how to wrap the perfect holiday gift. And don't forget to show me your beautifully wrapped gifts! Post your photos to Instagram and tag me @christiegeig.

Monday Must-Haves Link-Up with The Style Record

Monday Must-Haves

Monday Must-Haves by theclosetbychristie featuring matte makeup

1- Triangle Necklaces: These necklaces are everywhere right now! It has a tribal vibe and you can get it in a very simple, classy style or as a big statement necklace. Whatever your style, there's one out there for you!

Here's my favorite Triangle Necklaces with varying styles and price points-

2- Box Clutches: These geometric bags are the next big thing. Many of these can be dressed down for a weekend look or dressed up for an elegant night out! Whether you go bold and glam or simple and chic, it's sure to amp up your trendiness for any look.

Here's my favorite, affordable box clutches-

3- Faux Fur Vests: I've had my eye on faux fur vests this season! I have yet to buy one, but it's definitely on my wish list. It's the perfect way to embrace the snow season and stay cozy, yet stylish. I have been dying to style it with an a-line skirt for the office, but even more- it's a quick, easy weekend look. You can pair it with a pair of skinny jeans, boots, and simple long-sleeve tee.

Here's the lovely faux fur vests that I've been lusting over-

4- Pantone Coffee Mugs: If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I'm so in love with Pantone. Color is so important to understand when styling because it can really make a huge difference in the way an outfit is perceived. Or even just for flattery purposes! The entire fashion industry revolves around Pantone's color predictions! In August and September, I featured a series of posts introducing each of Pantone's Fall 2013 colors and explaining the importance of color in fashion (see previous post, first of series: Pantone Fall 2013: Acai).

They have a ton of products in their online shop, but my current favorites are the coffee mugs-

5- Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: The Naked 3 Make-Up Palette is here; just in time for the holidays! Palettes can be a bit expensive, but this one is definitely worth the investment. I love the Urban Decay brand because it's great quality and many of their shades have subtle sparkles in them! I'm all about keeping make-up natural, so this is the perfect palette for me. If you take good care of it, it's bound to last you a while.

6- Holiday Sweaters: The 'ugly' sweater is a huge holiday trend, particularly this year! Hosting an 'Ugly Sweater' party is a wonderful way to add a fun twist to any holiday party. There's even themed running marathons and online boutiques dedicated to this fun trend. But what I'm really loving this year is classy, cute holiday sweaters. I'm not into buying something that I consider ugly, so this is a great option for me. It's nice to embrace the holiday season while staying true to your personal style. There's just something about these sweaters that have a charming appeal!

Need a Stylist? Try Wantable!

Today everything is all about customization. Everyone wants to embrace their individuality! You can customize almost anything from phone cases to jewelry and especially social networks to match your unique style and express your personality. Ever since the boom of social media, this is becoming more and more common today. Now you can even customize your shopping experience with websites like Wantable! Until they approached me last month for this collaboration, I didn't even realize this type of website existed. Need a break from shopping? Regretfully, yes! Let Wantable do all of the work while you relax!

How does this work? It's simple!

YOU-
1- Choose a category: Make-Up, Accessories, or Intimates
and
2- Take a Personal Style Quiz (it's no more than 5 minutes!)

THEY-
1- Assess your personal, unique style based on your quiz answers
and
2- Choose 4 fabulous items and send you a monthly gift box!

For an avid shopper like me, it's nice to sit back and let someone else do the work for a change! It was so much fun to open my box and be completely surprised by what they picked out for me. See the photo above for what I received in my December Accessories Box (this box was a complimentary gift, but I'm only writing about it because I LOVED it).

Office Holiday Party: Look One

It's that time of year- the holidays! I'll bet all of you are getting ready to attend at least one holiday party. If you're like me, you are probably wondering about what you're going to wear. The most difficult party to dress for is the office holiday party. There's a fine line between professional and unprofessional. Is it casual or dressy? Should you wear normal work attire or something a little more festive? I want to answer all of those questions for you. So in true The Closet by Christie style, here's my Office Holiday Party Style Guide!

As you're preparing for your office holiday party, I recommend sticking with a look that is somewhere in the middle. Wear something professional that you would normally wear to work and then add some holiday colors to the palette. This is the safest way to go! If your coworkers decide to go a little less casual, then you'll look fabulous! I know I wouldn't want to be the only one dressed down. Always dress up! For my color palette, I decided to go in a more contemporary direction by choosing a classic black and white with burgundy accents. This is great for a holiday look or even an everyday look.

Pictured above is my favorite flower headband that I bought at Old Navy last year. Burgundy is such a beautiful color for the holidays! A flower headband is the perfect accent for any look.

The photo above shows a closer look at the detail of my look. I've fallen head over heels for the Chaps No Iron tops at Kohl's (see previous post: OOTD: Itty Bitty Houndstooth)! This one has a black and white gingham pattern. I accessorized with my gold flower pendant necklace from White House Black Market. The charm is detachable, so you can wear it with the necklace or as a brooch.

Love my look? You can get it, too!

1- Gingham No Iron Top: Chaps by Kohl's, $39.00
2- Mixed Media Pencil Skirt: Simply Vera Wang by Kohl's, $34.00
3- Ribbed Sweater Tights: Simply Vera Wang by Kohl's, $8.99
4- Patent Leather Bow Loafers: LC Lauren Conrad by Kohl's, $24.99

Monday Must Haves Link-Up with The Style Record

Monday Must Haves

Monday Must Haves by theclosetbychristie featuring a turn lock wallet

Happy Monday! I hope everyone is getting off to a fresh start for the new work week. Aside from taking care of a sick puppy and getting some holiday shopping in, I mostly relaxed so I am feeling nice and rejuvenated. Today I'm linking up with The Style Record to share my Monday Must-Haves! These are just a few of my favorite things right now. When I find something I love, I just have to tell everyone all about it! So ladies, today is your lucky day because I am sharing all of my secrets.

1- Kluster Jewelry: I discovered this company a few months ago when I attended LuckyFABB. They were kind enough to offer me a complimentary gift for attending the conference (See Previous Post: It's a Boho Chic Weekend)! Ever since, I've been hooked. Their products are so bright, fun, and unique. It works great for layering jewelry and really adds a nice color pop to any look. I shopped their website for Black Friday and got some amazing deals steals!

All of that aside, my most favorite part of the company is the amazing customer service. I work in the hospitality and events industry, so I notice all of the little things! Their shipping is super quick and every item comes individually gift wrapped (even if it's for you, it's still a gift right? from me to me!) with a hand-written, customized thank you note. Wow! The most impressive for me was their social media interactions. Any time I tag them on a social network, they always return the love (re-tweet, re-gram, favorite, reply, etc)! Most companies don't, so that means something to me. I like the attention! Check out their website. They're still running some holiday sales! Kluster Shop

2- Cloche Hats: A popular staple of the 1920's, cloche hats are back and I'm loving it! There's so many different styles and colors available. No matter which style you choose, it's sure to have a beautiful silhouette and will add a classic, chic appeal to any look. I don't currently own one, but I've had my eye on a few.

Check out my favorite Affordable Cloche Hats below!

Scala Hats · Lord & Taylor Hats · San Diego Hat Company Hats

3- OPI Nail Lacquer: It's my favorite brand of nail polish! OPI is always pushing the envelope with brand new colors and revolutionary styles, such as shatter and the new liquid sand.

Check out the best of their new San Francisco and Mariah Carey Holiday Collections!

Walgreens Nail Polish

4- Bow Belts: If you've been following my blog, then you'll know that I love bows! I recently bought the White House Black Market Elongated Bow Belt and am in love. I wear it every chance I get! It's the perfect way to accessorize any look.

Check out my favorite Affordable Bow Belts, certain to take any look from ordinary to extraordinary!

White House Black Market Belts · Style&co. Belts · Banana Republic Belts

5- White House Black Market Flats: I've said it before, I love a great heel but for my everyday looks I value comfort. Lucky for me, there's about a million fabulous options for flats out there these days! But it can be challenging to find a pair that's an excellent quality. A lot of flats are poorly made, which can make them even more uncomfortable than a good pair of heels or they just fall apart after using them for a few months. Then I discovered WHBM flats! They're a little pricey, so I wait until they're on sale and order them online. The designs are fabulous, the quality is amazing, and they offer both comfort and support.

Check out a few of White House Black Market's (most current) Fabulous Flats!

White House Black Market Flats

6- Colorblock Bags: Is it just me, or are these everywhere? A few weeks ago, I purchased an Elle Colorblock Satchel at Kohl's and fell in love! It has become my new, almost everyday purse and I just have to share the love.

Check out my favorite Affordable Colorblock Clutches & Bags!

From Cute to Chic Style Guide

From Cute to Chic

From Cute to Chic by theclosetbychristie featuring lace up ankle booties

I'm a real sucker for cute! I just love things that are cute- and that's no different with my fashion. There's so many cute things in the fashion world right now! From animal sweaters to penguin earmuffs, the cuteness is everywhere and it's not just for kids. But as I'm getting older, I want to look chic and sophisticated. I look young as it is, so I don't want my clothing to make me look even more youthful! However, the truth is- as I always say- it's all in the way you style it. Use the following tips to add elegance to your favorite cute piece!

Here's my From Cute to Chic Style Guide-

1. One Cute Per Outfit: I know it may be hard to resist all of the cuteness, but it's important to keep it to a minimum if you want to maintain a sophisticated look. You definitely don't want to go overboard!

2. Neutral Colors or Deep Hues: That's right, color is so important! By choosing a 'cute' piece that's a neutral or deep hue, it brings a level of elegance to it. It no longer looks like a sweater you borrowed from your daughter!

3. Classic Pairings: I'll say it again- it's all in the way you style it! The full look is extremely important because it's not just about that one piece; it's about the entire outfit. By choosing classic pairings, it will take that 'cute' piece and transform it into a chic look.

Can't resist the cuteness? Try these adorable pieces that will easily take you from cute to chic-

You Style! Cable Knit Sweaters for the Office

My latest obsession is cable knit sweaters! I love the cozy, textured look but it can be a tricky trend to style- especially for the office. A few weeks ago, I walked you through styling this trend for the office (see previous post: How-To Style Guide: Chunky Cable Knit Sweaters). Then I challenged YOU, the lovely members of my Polyvore group 'What's In Your Closet?' to style a cable knit sweater look for the office. Here's the results!

60 sets were entered into the contest and it was incredibly difficult to choose a top 3 when I genuinely loved so many more of them. The above photo carousel (click 'right' arrow to see more) displays the top 3 winners of the contest. Each of these sets are beautifully styled! They're clean, crisp, and professional while still remaining true to the cozy sweater look. Great job, ladies!

Meet Paisley! She's my adorable Havanese puppy who loves fashion, just like her mother. She's my little model and loves being photographed in all of the trends. So, I decided to start this Paisley's Pick column to share her latest fashions.

This week she's showcasing her grey Martha Stewart tweed coat from Petsmart. It's a nice, light coat perfect for a crisp, Fall day. She loves the dark purple flower embellishment, which adds a nice feminine flair to the masculine fabric. Paisley accessorized with her lavender Top Paw bow.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Office

Holiday Gift Guide for the Office
Holiday Gift Guide for the Office by theclosetbychristie featuring Pier 1 Imports

It's that time of year, again! The holidays, better known as the gifting season. It's fun and easy to shop for people you know, like your close friends and family. That perfect item in the store jumps out at you and you think 'oh, so and so would love this!' But what about shopping for colleagues at the office? You may be new to the office or you may not have connected with these colleagues on a personal level. You don't want to be the only fool that shows up without gifts, but you don't want to go overboard either. You know you need the perfect, professional little something but what is that? I've learned a thing or two over these past few years of office gifting.

Here's my Holiday Gift Guide for the Office!

1- Ornaments: This is a wonderful gift for anyone. If you know your colleagues personalities and interests well, get them something they'll love and may be able to use year-round as a decoration. If you work beside a sports fanatic, get a sport-themed ornament. If you're less familiar with them, get a standard holiday-themed one. This is an affordable gift that shows you were thinking of them. And trust me, there's an ornament out there for everyone these days. My favorite place to get gorgeous ornaments is Pier 1! Check out Pier 1's Christmas Ornaments.

2- Glassware Baskets: One of my favorite, easy, go-to gifts is glassware baskets. It makes for such a quick, neutral gift. The most affordable way to do this is by getting a coffee mug and filling it with candy, like chocolate kisses, and wrapping it in cellophane with a pretty ribbon or bow. If you want to get fancy, fill the mug with k-cups or coffee samples! For the head honcho (aka your boss), I recommend getting a pretty serving dish and filling it with whatever you desire. I think some gift bag fluff and candies is sufficient. I found some lovely and affordable glassware at Kohl's. Check it out: Kohl's Holiday Glassware.

3- Wine Accessories: Depending on your company culture and colleagues, you may want to consider wine accessories. I've seen some of the cutest wine bottle outfits! They have winter sweaters, winter coats, a Mrs. Claus dress, etc. In addition, there's always bottle stoppers and wine glass charms. You could get festive for the holidays or go with a normal, everyday one. Check out the following stores for some really great, affordable ones: Bed Bath & Beyond Wine OutfitsBed Bath & Beyond Wine Glass CharmsBed Bath & Beyond Wine Stoppers, & Kohl's Wine Outfits.

4- Baked Goods: Everyone likes a yummy treat, right? For the bakers out there, pick up a few holiday tins and show off your skills by baking your famous peppermint bark or melted snowman cookies! For those that don't bake, like me, head over to your neighborhood grocery store and buy something. They don't have to know it wasn't homemade! Check out these great recipes from fellow bloggers: Baked by Rachel's Peppermint Bark and Somewhat Simple's Melted Snowman Cookies

5. Gift Cards: This is definitely the most effortless option! I recommend getting coffee gift cards so it makes more sense to add a smaller amount to it. I think $5 is the perfect amount, especially if you have a number of people to shop for. Starbucks has THE cutest gift cards, but Dunkin Donuts is another option. Choose what you think your colleagues will want to use!

What are you getting your colleagues for the holidays? I will likely get a combination of the above!
