As a
fashion blogger, I love to test drive the new trends. Why? Well, half of it is
for fun, like playing dress up, and the other half is to report back to
all of you! Some trends can ignite a spark of inspiration in you when you see it and others leave you wondering what to do with it. I love that but how the heck would I wear it?
That's precisely the reaction I had to the cold shoulder top, mostly because I wondered what type of bra I would wear with it. It sounds silly but it's a legit
reason! Who's with me on that? Style isn't everything; we also need
functional clothing. So, let's explore this trend together!
Here's The Cold Shoulder Trend: What It Is & How To Wear It!
THE TREND: COLD SHOULDER VS OFF-THE-SHOULDER
What's the difference between cold shoulder and off-the-shoulder? Both are hot trends right now! The terminology sounds like it's just an alternative name but there actually is a difference between the two styles. A cold shoulder top is a top that exposes just the shoulders, so it usually has a strap beside the neck. An off-the-shoulder top has straps that fall on your upper arm, so the straps are literally off-the-shoulder.
Both styles can be found on everything from casual summer tops to fancy little black dresses. Because of the variety of styles, this trend can be playful, sexy, or bohemian.
HOW TO WEAR IT
My LC Lauren Conrad Striped Cold Shoulder Top has a playful summer vibe. The crochet detailing and loose fit are casual and the vertical
multi-colored stripes are fun. I love the varying widths and hues of
these stripes! So, how can I style this top for a summer day?
1- BRIGHT COLORS
The top is multi-colored and there is a pop of bright teal, so I accessorized with bright colors. I painted my nails and chose earrings in a bright teal to match the stripe in the top. Then, I threw in this bright guava handbag!
2- BOTTOMS: CONTRAST OR BALANCE
Skinny jeans add a slim silhouette, which is a nice contrast to this loose fitting top. This is my personal favorite! If you prefer a balanced silhouette, try a pair of flared jeans.
3- A BRALETTE
As I mentioned above, choosing a bra for a cold shoulder top can be tricky depending on the type of strap. I don't like wearing a strapless bra unless the top
is very fitted but lucky for me, pretty bralettes are also a
huge trend right now. What life savers these are! For this look, I'm
wearing a white lace bralette. The neutral color serves its purpose
without taking away from the look.
