1 Simple Fix To Being The Master of Layering A High-Low Hem

Who's not ready for the summer to be over just yet? I'm right with you on that! I've been spending as much time outside as possible, soaking up rays on the beach and driving with my convertible top down constantly. So although I did my summer recap last week (see previous post: The Best of Summer 2015), I figured we could hold onto this season for just a bit longer with a bonus post! Woo-hoo!

For this look, I'm having some fun with my Free People Parisian Slip Dress by layering it under one of my favorite summer dresses. Read on to find out all about it!

And as much as I despise the cold weather, sometimes fashion is the only thing that gets me through the brutal winters we've been having here on the east coast! Who else is loving the sleeveless trench coat trend? I had been wanting a sleeveless trench for a while but had a tough time finding one! Until recently, I couldn't find what I envisioned anywhere. It's moments like that where I wish I had sewing skills so I could just design it! Ever have a moment like that? My vision was a classic color and style, knee-length, and of course sleeveless. I didn't end up finding the exact one at my price point but when I saw this Banana Republic sleeveless trench I couldn't resist! It's similar to what I had in mind; it's just shorter in length.

So the hunt was over and I got my sleeveless trench, but then I wondered 'how am I going to style this?' I was surprised at how versatile it turned out to be! 3 Ways To Create Art Through Everyday Fashion

Who believes that fashion and art go hand-in-hand? I'm an artsy kind of person and I believe this 100%! Fashion is a form of nonverbal communication and we can use it to communicate who we are to the world. Art can also be used for self-expression, so why can't fashion be art? Avant garde fashion is the closest thing to bridge that gap, however, it doesn't have to be that way! There are plenty of every day pieces that serve as art.

Why is it that avant garde in particular is considered art? Well, just about anything that makes a statement causes intrigue and that's exactly what the best kind of art does. Take the Mona Lisa for example. It's such an iconic work of art, not because the portrait was simply beautiful, but because of her expression. It looked like she was hiding something behind that smile and this causes conversation and imagination.

All of this being said, you can create art through your own everyday fashion. Here's how!

Who doesn't love fabulous layering? This is one of my favorite aspects of fashion because it really forces you to think outside of the box and view your clothing differently. But it's certainly not an easy thing to take a step back and take on a new perspective. That's true for both fashion and life! There are some pieces that seem like they're made for layering and form a wonderful canvas for the art that will become your look; a cami, a basic oversized cardigan, or even a little black dress. These pieces scream 'decorate me!'

One trend that seems to be making its way back in style- and happens to make THE best layering piece- are slip dresses! But hey, isn't that an intimate? For those that are a little more conservative- like myself- that doesn't even sound like an option! How could I possibly feel comfortable in that? That's exactly what I would have been saying a few weeks ago. But recently, I had a change of perspective.
