3 Pretty Little Liars Inspired Flapper Costumes

Where do you look for Halloween costume inspiration? As a twenty-something, the typical pattern is to either grab something from the costume store, put together a super creative and elaborate costume, or imitate something from pop culture, like a favorite TV show character. But what if it was as easy as choosing a classic costume and upping the ante? What happened to being a pumpkin, a witch, or even a skeleton?

In recent years, I've really enjoyed choosing a 'classic Halloween' costume idea and using fashion to take it to the next level. Last year I was a vampire and the previous year I was a witch, but one of my absolute favorite costumes (ever!) is the flapper costume. It definitely has the best style-potential out of the 'Halloween classics.' There's just something about 1920's fashion that's so chic! I love the sequins, fringe, pearls, and everything else that goes along with it.

There are so many ways you can portray a flapper for Halloween, but the absolute best flapper costume I have ever seen was on Pretty Little Liars, worn by Aria Montgomery!

DIY 'Scream Queens' Halloween Costumes

As we're leading up to Halloween, I'm sure you're all thinking about what you'll dress up as. I'm not a fan of the classic 'Halloween store' costume, as I find them overpriced and I don't want to look like everyone else. I approach Halloween, like any other occasion, as a fashionable affair! For instance, last year I was a vampire just as an excuse to wear dark lipstick. 

Sometimes I choose a classic costume like a flapper and other times I turn to pop-culture for inspiration. That being said, the new hit Scream Queens is the perfect inspiration for a group Halloween costume! The show is popular enough that people know it, yet it's new enough where it might be an original idea. Plus, the fashion is beautiful! 

DIY Minnie Mouse Dog Costume Tutorial

Halloween is right around the corner, but forget what you're going to be- what's your dog going to be? I'm sure those of you with kids know what that thought process is like! So last year, I had made up my mind that Paisley was going to be Minnie Mouse. I searched high and wide- and even checked the Disney store!- but was unable to find a complete costume. We found a cute tutu at Petsmart but the ears were a weird cross between a headband and hood, so we made our own!

I have very specific memories of being in middle school and taking caution not to wear my brown Coach tote with my black leather boots, for example. It just couldn't be done! It's absolutely achievable and all you need are two things: leggings and a blanket scarf. You might think this style is a one trick pony but let's take a step back for a moment and look at these pieces from a different perspective. Wipe your mental slate clean! 

By simply draping or wrapping the blanket scarf in a different way, you can create a completely different look. Take this look for example. I'm wearing the exact same oversized sweater, leggings, boots, and even jewelry! The blanket scarf is literally the only difference between these four looks, yet they all look pretty different.
