3 Easy Steps To Make Street Style Chic

With it just having been New York Fashion Week, street style is on my mind! The NYC street style is always such a focus at this time of year. It's amazing because that is really the time where creatives can explore new looks and styles. Pretty much anything goes with street style, as long as it's worn with confidence! The funkier, the better.

For me personally, I like to explore new styles but 'grunge' isn't exactly my forte. So I decided to flaunt a street style that's a little more me. For those of you that prefer a more classic style, here's my tips on How to Make Street Style Chic!

How to Make Street Style Chic

Step 1- Start with a typical street style piece, like a graphic tee or combat boots.

Step 2- Pair it with your standard classics, like a solid-color blazer and simple pointed-toe heels.

Step 3- Add some luxe to your look! For my look, I chose chunky gold jewelry and a neutral color block handbag with snakeskin accents.

Voila!

So, I think the shirt says it all- I am not a morning person! I don't think I'll ever get used to waking up early. I first saw a graphic tee with this 'I'm allergic to mornings' phrase worn by Emily on Pretty Little Liars (Worn on TV, I'm Allergic to Mornings Tee). I know I am constantly talking about this show, but seriously, the fashion is incredible. Sometimes their fashion is affordable so I looked up where the shirt was from, but it was sold out. I took to the internet, thinking I could design my own version and found one already made on Zazzle. It was only $30 and came in 39 different colors. I chose 'summer peach.'  

The quality is decent, but the sizing runs very small. I'm usually a size small and I got a large to play it safe. It's just baggy enough to be comfortable!

Let Your Hair Be Your Accessory

Accessories are known to be anything from jewelry to handbags and shoes; really anything that serves as an accent to a look. But hair?  A fancy or intricate hair 'do can easily steal the show! This is because anyone can buy an accessory but a braid, even if it's simple to do, tends to be a 'wow' factor because it looks complicated.

I'm a huge fan of braids! I don't wear them as much these days, but it was once my trademark look. So for this post, I decided to go back to the basics as far as my look goes and focus on the hair.

THE LOOK

Once you can do a basic french braid, you can really do any type of braid. Or at least that's what I think! I do anything from a fishtail to a wrap-around french braid and even a 5-strand braid. This particular braid is what I call an infinity braid. I call it that because it seems to just go on forever! All of my hair is swept to one side and french braided from the top of my head all the way down to the ends of my hair. This time I just did a regular french braid, but I usually go a french braid into a 5-strand braid. Who else loves braids?

So, what are shooties? This is an interesting term, even for me. It's a cross between a shoe and a bootie! In our culture, we love to combine words. Like say, a spork. We also do this for popular couples, like brangelina. So, I guess our fashion is no different!

What I really love about shooties is how sassy and sexy they are! It's a shoe with a real personality. Many of this style boot come with a peep-toe, sling-back, or cut-out design. This makes is a perfect transition piece from winter to spring!

Where Do You Find Your Style Inspiration?

 

When it comes to fashion, inspiration comes from everywhere. You could be inspired by your favorite TV show, your best friend, or even a stranger on the street! After all, fashion is an expression of self. We are ever evolving and strongly influenced by our environment, so it makes complete sense. Where does my inspiration come from? The majority of it comes from the media; television, celebrities, and the internet. And by the internet, I mean everything from fellow bloggers to e-blasts from my favorite retailers and even applications, such as Instagram and Stylekick.

This particular look was inspired from browsing Stylekick, an app where bloggers can share their favorite looks and tag the clothing items in the photo. I chose this photo of a top blogger, Blaire Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific, and recreated a similar look. It's fun because I had these pieces in my closet already, except for my DIY bow belt, but I hadn't thought of pairing them together. It just goes to show how other people can open your eyes to new possibilities!

How To Layer a Little Black Dress

Who doesn't love a little black dress? A classic LBD is absolutely the best investment when it comes to your wardrobe. It's a reliable go-to dress for any occasion and can be styled in a completely different way every time. Because of its versatility, I always purchase a LBD if I fall in love with it. There's always an occasion right around the corner so it's great to have a few of these in my closet.

It's so important to stock up on the classics, but I can be a real sucker for color. It's a struggle to reign myself in when shopping! Does anyone else have this problem? To appease both the classic and fun sides of my fashion personality, I try to have fun styling these basics!

I bought this black Chaps dress from Kohl's about a year ago. It's a classic color and silhouette, plus it fit me like a glove! It was a no-brainer; I needed it! It's perfect for the office because the cotton-like fabric makes it just casual enough. It's definitely my go-to when I'm struggling to come up with something to wear to work!

My favorite way to style this dress is by layering it over a classic button-up collared top. I have about a million of these tops in different colors and patterns, so it looks completely new every time.

Trendy Online Boutiques + a $25 Gift Card Giveaway

With the power of the internet, we're not limited to shopping at malls and the big name retailers. After all, we don't want to look like everyone else! Although I love many of these retailers and everyone does style these pieces differently, it's nice to find new clothing and accessories in smaller boutiques. The Mint Julep Boutique has so many different styles to appease any preference. Most of their clothing is bright with fun patterns and a flowy fit. I chose The Mint Julep's Wide Open Spaces top because I love the classic color, the bohemian-style fit, and the gorgeous floral crochet detailing on the shoulders and neck.
