How To Dress Up A Crop Top For A Twenty-Something

Who doesn't love a crop top? These are one of my absolute favorite current trends and it seems like it's slowly moving from the trend category to a wardrobe staple. Last week, we showed you how to wear a crop top casually. A crop top looks great with a pair of high-waisted shorts or a cute mini a-line skirt, but what about for a special occasion? With the weather getting nicer, I'm sure a lot of you have a few bridal or baby showers, weddings, and even communions on your calendars.

So, let's talk about How To Dress Up A Crop Top!

So you want to wear your favorite crop top to your next special occasion event, but how? Follow these three steps and you'll get it right every time!

1- Go Basic
Starting with a fresh palette is always a great idea. The best way to dress it up is to start with a simple, basic crop top. My favorite is a black sleeveless tank with a crew neck style, like the one I'm wearing here.

2- Stick With Classics
Because you're already rocking the crop top trend, pair it with classic pieces to keep your look chic. Sticking with wardrobe staples, aside from your crop top, will help keep your look current but still appropriate for a special occasion event.

3- Glam Up The Accessories
A little sparkle never hurt anybody! And in this case, a little sparkle would go a long way towards dressing up your crop top look. Try adding a metallic or sparkly clutch with a big statement necklace.

So you want to wear your favorite crop top casually, but how? Follow these three steps and you'll get it right every time! And for even more tips, check out our previous post: 6 Must-Haves For Styling a Crop Top For a 20-Something.

1- High Waisted Bottoms

Pair your crop top with high waisted bottoms! Whether you choose jeans, shorts, or a skirt is totally up to you and your comfort level. By choosing any high rise bottoms, you're making this crop top look a little more chic and a little less youthful. Less is more when it comes to showing skin!

2- Add Layers

Try adding some summer layers to your look! Some stylish options include a sleeveless longline blazer, moto jacket, or even a loose-fitting cardigan. For my look here, I wore my linen sleeveless oxford top unbuttoned to add a light layer. This will keep your look age appropriate by showing just a little bit of your midriff and you won't look like you're going to the club. 

3- Fun, Bright Accessories

Everyone loves fun accessories, especially for the spring and summer! This is the time of year to really enjoy playing with color. This step is optional but I think bright pops of color gives this look a daytime vibe, which is what we're going for here.

For those of us that work full-time, we spend the majority of our waking hours Monday through Friday in work-wear. It's no wonder our closets are overflowing! If you work in a traditional office environment, that means you have your work-self and personal-self when it comes to your style; that's two wardrobes! 

But what if we merged these wardrobes? Work-wear is particularly cutting edge these days in comparison to past decades. We're that much more stylish in and outside of the office, so that makes it that much easier to merge these two worlds. All it takes is a little creativity!

3 Ways To Wear One Pair of Culottes: Inspiration Board

When culottes recently emerged as an up-and-coming trend, it was one of those that I said 'looks great on her but not for me.' But the more I see them, the more I'm starting to think maybe they ARE for me! I'm really growing to love this trend and in fact, I just got a pair of black culottes from Express. They're too long- go figure- so I have to get them altered before I can rock them.
